Buying Guide

Choosing a Housed Unit

Get the housing, insert and locking method right and the unit will run for years.

Step 01

Measure the shaft, not the block

Units are sized by shaft diameter. Measure the shaft with a caliper rather than guessing from the old housing casting number.

Step 02

Pick the right locking

Set screws suit steady, one-direction loads. Adapter sleeves grip better on reversing or vibrating duty. Eccentric collars resist loosening at higher speeds.

Step 03

Match housing to environment

Cast iron for general plant, pressed steel for light duty, stainless or thermoplastic where washdown and corrosion are daily realities.

Can I replace just the insert instead of the whole unit?

Yes, if the housing bore and seat are undamaged. Inserts are standardised, so a UC 207 insert from any of our brands fits an existing 207 housing.

What is the difference between UCP and SN blocks?

UCP units use a sealed insert bearing with its own locking and suit general duty. SN plummer blocks are split housings for adapter-mounted spherical rollers, and handle heavier loads with serviceable bearings and seals.

How often should housed units be regreased?

General plant duty typically needs grease every one to three months. Hot, wet or dusty duty needs shorter intervals. We can recommend a schedule and the correct grease for your conditions.

Do you stock metric and inch bore inserts?

Metric bores are stocked as standard. Inch bores in the UC and SA series are available against order.
