Step 01
Size from moment loads
Linear blocks fail from overturning moments more than plain weight. Work out the cantilever and offset loads before picking a rail size.
Step 02
Choose preload deliberately
Light preload for smooth low-force sliding, medium preload where rigidity and accuracy under cutting loads matter.
Step 03
Do not mix grades
A ground C5 screw driving a low-grade guideway wastes money. Match accuracy grades across the whole axis to the tolerance the machine actually needs.

Rolled or ground ball screw, which do I need?
Rolled C7 screws suit most positioning within about 0.05 mm per 300 mm. Ground C5 and better are for machine tools and metrology where repeatable micron-level accuracy is required.
Can you cut shafts and machine ends?
Yes. Hardened shafts are cut to length and end machining such as threads, steps and flats can be arranged with our workshop partners.
Do rails from different brands interchange?
Envelope dimensions generally follow the same standards, but running a mixed rail and block pair is not recommended. Replace rail and carriages as a set from one manufacturer.
How should guideways be lubricated?
Most carriages have grease nipples and should be greased on a schedule based on travel distance. Sealed low-maintenance options are available for hard-to-reach axes.
